Information Related to the Right to Information

The Constitution of Nepal guarantees every citizen the right to seek and receive information. The Right to Information Act, 2064 (2007) was enacted to implement this right. This law legally obligates all public bodies to provide requested information to citizens.

Citizens' Rights:

  • Request information related to any public institution.

  • Submit an application to access information.

  • File a complaint if the information is not provided.

Objectives of the Right to Information:

  • Promote transparency.

  • Strengthen accountability.

  • Reduce corruption.

  • Ensure public participation.

How to Request Information:

  1. Submit a written application to the concerned office.

  2. Address the application to the Information Officer.

  3. The response must be provided within 15 days as per the law.

By exercising the Right to Information, citizens can play an active role in promoting good governance.
